Yea, I mean as far as I know, the games are going to have similar characteristics, but SWTOR definitely prides itself in its many unique and original features, such as full voice acting for the entire game.

One MAJOR difference is - When you hit the player they get hit. What i mean is there wont be a t.k.o from a far and when someone lands a blow that person will get hit by the weapon opposed to the weapon going through them.

One of the benefits of new tecnnologies  Grin  Im looking forward to see the combat dynamics for Jedi/ Sith in this game.  It's going to be passive, like KOTOR, so it should be interesting.

I don't really think there's a question that you're going to need to kill stuff to gain experience, et cetera, but TOR will do things differently; we've already seen the dynamic cover system essential to the smuggler class - something which no mainstream MMO has had the balls to try so far - and the E3 highlights showed some very promising items in the realm of combat: players will need to hit their attack button real-time in order to attack, perhaps á la Age of Conan, though much less in the realm of tedious. Jedi (basing this on the Sith class preview during E3) will automatically dodge and deflect blaster shots targetted at them, and apparently there is a degree of importance set on keeping moving during combat - one of the previewers mentioned, playing as the Sith class alongside a Bounty Hunter, that he was able to Force Grip an enemy Jedi to hold him in place while deflecting blaster shots targetted at his BH friend, who jetted into the air and bathed the helpless Jedi in flames. It all sounded pretty damn magnificent, and apparently - though a lot of previewers criticised the art style - the animations were organic and fluid - the acrobatics and unpredictability of lightsaber duels has already been praised, for example, and it doesn't dissolve into I HIT YOU YOU HIT ME, even at this early stage. That's something to look forward to.

Damn that is good to hear.  I remembered reading or watching that it would be a sort of turn-based/ roll-based action, but if they can incorporate a very fluid attack and defend interface then there is no doubt in my mind that combat in this game will be amazing.

And per the art style of the game: I was a little dissappointed to discover the art to be almost cartoonish in nature, but I understand why they had to do this.  After all, their main objective is to appeal to all sorts of gamers, regardless of hardware.  Although it would be awesome if they could have just made a very graphics demanding Star Wars MMO RPG.  But who are we kidding?  Grin

Yeah, but a graphics intense one would be sweet! (I think Xanath's system could handle it  Tongue) Sooo glad that its not "I hit you you hit me" action though, that really is a relief!

Haha you wouldn't have liked KOTOR if the old "I hit you you hit me" combat distastes you.  But then again, I absolutely HATED and I mean HATED that kind of combat but after I started playing KOTOR, I was so immersed in the plot and the characters that the combat didn't matter as much.  Even then, the combat was fairly fast paced for a turn based RPG, and I was never board replaying it the million times I did  Grin

Old topic is old. But I've recently got caught up on all the updates and I have to say I am excited beyond anything for this. What differentiates it most from any other MMO is the voice acting and the story progression. And I have to say the combat looks promising with a good mix of fluid motions without being completely dependent on poor hit boxes and lag.
